CORNWALL has come out on top of a list of destinations in the UK where people would relocate to after visiting on holiday, according to a property website.
According to research by Zoopla, of renters and homeowners who have taken a UK-based break in the past three years, 71 per cent have researched the cost of properties in the places they stayed, with 42 per cent looking into the exact property they stayed at.
The research found that Cornwall was the most popular destination for people who were inspired to move after a recent holiday, followed by London and then Devon.
Nearly three-quarters (70 per cent) of people said they had discussed or considered moving to the destination permanently while they were there with some saying they were inspired by the thought of a better quality of life, cleaner air, or a safer place to live.
Others said the discussion was sparked by seeing their children playing in the surrounding beaches or countryside.
Of the people who took the survey, nine per cent said they had moved to their holiday destination, and 12 per cent said they had moved to a place with a similar climate or lifestyle.
Daniel Copley, a consumer expert at Zoopla, said: "The research clearly shows that holidays in the UK are a significant motivator for encouraging people to consider making a big move – changing their home as well as their lifestyle."
The top 10 destinations people were inspired to move to after visiting on holiday, according to Zoopla:
- Cornwall
- London
- Yorkshire
- Devon
- North Wales
- South Wales
- Isle of Wight
- Somerset
- Scottish Highlands or Islands
- Cumbria
