TWO Cornish beaches have been ranked in a top ten list of the best-rated dog-friendly beaches in the UK.
Porth Joke and Gwynver Beach in Cornwall are among other beaches in Cornwall ranked in the list which has been compiled by bath retailer Showers to You list of the best-rated dog-friendly beaches in the UK.
The UK may have passed its final heatwave of the year yet searches on Google for ‘dog-friendly beaches near’ me continue to trend.
Regardless of the temperature, dogs love to run across the sand, dig and splash in the waves, but what beaches in Cornwall have been named the best place to go?
Porth Joke
According to the website Cornwall Beaches, Porth Joke known as ‘Polly Joke’ beach by locals, is situated in a deep cove between headlands with Crantock Beach to the north and Holywell Bay. The narrow beach is deeper than it is wide and backs on a shallow valley with a stream running down. At low tide, there is enough sand on even the busiest day. There are also rock pools and caves for explorers of all ages.
Dogs are allowed all year round.
Porth Joke was rated 7.96 out of ten.
Gwynver Beach
Cornwall Beach website says that “Gwynver’s name is derived from Gwynevere of Arthurian legend, and it does have a beauty about it”. The beach is at the base of a grassy cliff near Penzance and is around 150 metres long. At high tide, the beach slopes steeply into the sea and can be dangerous. However, at low tide, Gwynver joins up with Sennen Beach.
Dogs are welcome all year round.
Gwynver Beach was rated 7.93 out of ten.
Other locations across the UK which were ranked on the list include Durdle Door (Dorset), Man O’War Beach (Dorset), Three Cliffs Bay (Glamorgan), Marloes Sand (Pembrokeshire), Cuckmere Haven Beach (East Sussex), Freshwater West (Pembrokeshire), Seacliff (Lothian) and Long Sands North Tynemouth.
