Cornwall has been named as a top staycation destination for an outdoors holiday.
Searches for ‘walking holidays for beginners’ have risen 400% and ‘off road cycling holidays UK’ have risen 200% over the past 12 months in the UK.
A new poll from Sally’s Cottages revealed that 71% of Brits look for outdoor recreation activities when booking a staycation
The Lake District (25.4%) was revealed as the most popular outdoor recreation staycation in the UK, followed by Devon (20.7%) and Cornwall (18.3%).
With autumn on the way, there is arguably no better time to get out into the crisp air and explore the beauty of Britain.
As searches for terms such as ‘walking holidays for beginners’ rose 200%, the poll of 1,000 UK staycation goers aimed to look deeper into the nation’s biggest priorities for booking a staycation, the outdoor recreation activities they participate in on their break, and their staycation destinations of choice.
In fact, 71% said they looked for outdoor recreation activities when booking a UK staycation – with the biggest priorities when booking a staycation revealed as walking and hiking routes (29.1%), quality of beaches (27.2%) and local culture (27.0%).
The top five most popular staycation destinations for an outdoor holiday were revealed as:
1. Lake District -25.4%
2. Devon -20.7%
3. Cornwall – 18.3%
4. Peak District – 15.1%
5. East Of England – 14.3%
A spokesperson from Sally'sd Cottages said: "From zip wires over lakes and wake boarding to more conventional, but no less exciting, surfing, wild swimming and coasteering in the most scenic of spots, Cornwall offers a variety of adventures for outdoor enthusiasts.
Therefore, is of little wonder that Cornwall ranked third for outdoor recreation holidays in the UK.
"For those that prefer living life on the edge, challenge yourself to rock climbing across Cornwall’s granite cliffs, where there are plenty of guided climbs available.
"If you prefer something a bit more sedentary you can hop on a boat to one of the wildlife tours in Padstow, where you can expect to spot grey seals and puffins.
For those brave enough there is even the option to go shark diving and come face-to-face with some of the area’s blue sharks."
