DRIVERS in Helston have spoken of their frustrations on social media after getting caught up in heavy congestion in the town today (Wednesday, September 27)
Commuters have reportedly experienced long delays and queues across the town all morning and over lunchtime – particularly in the areas around Whitehill Terrace, the Porthleven junction and The Furry.
Drivers have now shared their frustrations on Facebook. One said: “I tried getting to Helston at 11.15 this morning, via boating lake. It took 15 minutes from the Penrose entrance to the town centre.
“Return journey on bypass, past Spar was equally as bad at lunchtime, how long are these works in place I wonder?!”
Another post said: “We've been sat in traffic in Helston for 15 minutes due to four-way traffic lights.”
Traffic monitoring system INRIX is also reporting slow traffic saying: “A394 Whitehill Terrace Helston
“Slow traffic on A394 Whitehill Terrace both ways near Porthleven turn-off. In the roadworks area.”
While the cause of the long delays is four-way traffic lights, the reason for the actual traffic lights is currently unknown as it does not appear on Cornwall Council's roadworks map for today.
Monument Road, leading into the town centre via Coinagehall Street, currently has a traffic light system in place to allow Wildanet to carry out fibre infrastructure works, although this does not seem to be the cause of the congestion.
Cornwall Council also say they are "unaware" of what is causing the congestion in Helston today.
