People living in the Stithians were issued with the notice on Monday afternnon which told them they needed to boil their water before they drank it

The notice was issued to certain properties in the Truro area including Stithians and Frogpool. Now three days later it has been lifted.

This afternoon the company contacted the Packet to say the notice had finally been lifted and people could now drink tap water without having to boil it.

A spokesperson for South West Water said: "As part of the water treatment process, the water is tested at various stages of readiness for consumption to our customers.

A potential issue within the treatment works meant that as a precaution we enforced a boil water notice to some customers.

We letter dropped to these customers and as per our customer promise, customers that were asked by us to boil their water will be given a guaranteed standards of service payment of £15. Following two days of continuous rigorous testing of the water, we are pleased to confirm that these precautions can cease and the boil water notice is no longer in effect."

The company first issued the notice not to drink their tap water without boiling it and allowing it to cool on Monday afternoon.

People were told to do this for preparing or cooking food or cleaning their teeth.

They could continue to use water as normal for washing, bathing a toilet flushing.

At the time the water company said: “This is a precautionary measure and we will restore your water supply to normal as soon as possible and we will contact you as quickly as possible when these precautionary restrictions are lifted.”  The notice said that affected customers will automatically get £15 in compensation.
