ARMED Forces veterans were joined by a special guest at a special event held at Culdrose last week.
On Saturday, September 23, Derek Thomas MP for St Ives and West Cornwall travelled to RNAS Culdrose in Helston where he joined the Armed Forces veterans to enjoy a ‘big breakfast’ event.
The event, which was held in the warrant officers and senior rates mess at Culdrose also included several military charities and organisations for the veterans to find out more about the support available to them.
Following the big breakfast, Mr Thomas, along with the veterans travelled to the Predannack Anti-Aircraft Battery Museum on the Lizard to see the work that is underway to preserve some local military history.
Mr Thomas told the Packet that he felt “privileged” to attend the event. He said: “Any opportunity to acknowledge the work our armed forces do and the service of veterans in the past is so welcome, so it was a privilege to attend Saturday’s breakfast.
“The event was made more special due to so many veterans being present, along with a number of charities and organisations who can help wherever needed.
“RNAS Culdrose is an important part of Britian’s defences, so it’s fitting to hold one of the many veterans’ breakfasts on the base.”

Every third Saturday of each month, the Helston Armed Forces and Veterans provide breakfast for vets at the Inn and Still on Coinagehall Street in Helston.
According to the Helston Armed Forces and Veterans Facebook page, the group is to support one another to share stories and talk about their lives outside of the military.
As well as the big breakfast events, the group also organises regimental dinners, nights out, BBQs, parties, family occasions, summer balls and Christmas parties.
