Residents in mid-Cornwall are being urged to get ready to take delivery of their new bins in the coming weeks as food waste roll out finally begins.
Cornwall Council will be delivering new food wastebins to people in Mid-Cornwall in the coming weeks. They will be provided with a kitchen caddy making it easy to collect and compost your food scraps.
An outdoor caddy will also be provided to allow people to step up your recycling game, ensuring proper storage and easy disposal of food waste.
Most households will get a wheelie bin, but people will be given a reusable protective sack if a bin’s not right for their property.
A Get Set leaflet is being delivered to peoples' addresses. It contains all the information needed.
In the meantime people are being asked please carry on recycling as much as they can using their existing recycling bags and box.
The first phase covers Newquay, St Columb, St Austell, China Clays, Grampound, Gorran Haven, Mevagissey, Par, St Blazey, Fowey, and Lostwithiel, along with their surrounding areas.
Cornwall Council says that it will roll out the new waste and recycling collection services this year – two years after the new £30 million a year contract started.
As part of it, promised wheelie bins and food waste containers – which are big part of the new contract– will start to be handed out, as the new collection is rolled out in stages.
The new contract was for rubbish and recycling to be collected fortnightly and for a new weekly food waste collection to be launched.
Cornwall Council awarded the £335m contract to deliver the new service to Biffa in January 2020 and the contract started in February 2021.
