A FARM in Cornwall has been busy welcoming local school children to help them take part in fun agricultural activities.
Tregullas Farm on the Lizard was allocated funding through the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to educate and provide enrichment activities for pupils at the farm.
Some of these activities included pond dipping, nature detecting, soil science, meeting the lambs and arts and crafts.
Rona and Elsa who oversee the farm day to day-to-day activities as well as the school visits applied for funding earlier this year with the aim of getting more children to enjoy being outside.
Rona told the Packet: “Meeting the lambs in the spring must be a highlight, but visits are all year.
“The visits can be curriculum-based, but often the most exciting times are when things don’t quite go according to plan!”
This includes a particular visit by a group of children from a local primary school. Elsa explains: “A group of Landewednack children in years two and three were looking at hedges and two deer ran across in front of them.
“It was so exciting to see the deer and the children all gasped with surprise.
“Those of the things I would remember from my school days. I love giving that chance to our local children to enjoy our farm.”
