THE owner of a Cornish restaurant which has been named one of the best in the world has described the title as 'unbelievable'.
Last week, the Packet reported that Paul Ainsworth at No.6 in Padstow was named by TripAdvisor as one of the best restaurants globally, and the second best in the UK.
Upon hearing the news that one of his restaurants was named one of the top ten globally, Paul Ainsworth told the Packet: “It’s quite a statement to be told that you have been recognised as one of the best globally.
“It’s unbelievable. We’re not done we’re always evolving.”
The award-winning restaurant located at 6 Middle Street in Padstow uses locally sourced ingredients which are served in a simple modern style. Although the restaurant has a Michelin star status, Paul says it’s a ‘privilege’ to welcome guests. He said: “We do it for our customers, it’s about them.
“The Ainsworth collection is privileged to have you, we don’t have a dress code, if you have been on the beach and are in shorts and a T-shirt, it doesn’t matter, thank you for choosing us.”
Paul was born in Southampton into a hospitality-orientated family. His parents worked very hard in the industry and inspired Paul into the hospitality industry. “My work ethic was built into me by my dad, it set me in good stead for the industry”, Paul told the Packet.
“It was very hard work and rewarding.”
After working in London, Paul and his wife Emma moved to Cornwall where they took over the restaurant formally named Cornwall – Number 6. However, in 2009, it was renamed Paul Ainsworth at No.6.
In 2013, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star and was included in the Good Food Guide’s top 50 UK restaurants with a rating of seven out of ten.
