A CORNISH bowling club has announced it has raised over a thousand pounds for a charity of its choosing.
At the recent Annual General Meeting of Helston Bowling Club, the Chairman Mr Ian Wass, who was standing down as Chairman after six years, announced that the club had raised a large sum for its chosen charity for the year, the Alzheimer’s Society.
The money had been raised by raffles and fund-raising activities at various events throughout the year including a coffee morning all organised by one of it’s members Mrs Elizabeth Archbold. The coffee morning was well supported by members of the club and the public.
Local representative Claire from the Alzheimer’s Society was in attendance when the Chairman announced that the club had raised over £1100 and he invited Elizabeth to present the cheque.
A delighted Claire thanked the club for its generosity and outlined the work that the Society does in Cornwall.
Earlier this year, Helston Bowling Club was itself the recipient of a small cash injection, having applied to Helston Town Council for funds to continue its updating of club facilities by installing emergency lighting.
The council approved the grant aid and awarded the bowling club £475.
