MORE than 250 runners have recently taken part in a series of races – despite a dull and misty day in Cornwall.

On Sunday, October 1 competitors of all ages took part gathered at Carwinion Playing Field to take part in this year’s Run Mawnan event which also celebrated its tenth anniversary.

Before the racing commenced, Shakira of Embrace Dance Fitness made sure that each runner was ready to compete with a lively warm-up.

The one-mile children’s fun run was as popular as ever with over 100 primary-school-aged children sprinting around the village in a race to the finish. The winner was nine-year-old Kit Hipwell followed closely by Jack Dixon and Sin Darke.

The Hipwells kept it in the family with the first girl across the line being 11-year-old Elizabeth Hipwell, followed by Mia Hambly and Olivia Martin.

"As always, we are extremely grateful to all the local businesses who have supported us by providing some great prizes, and to all the volunteers who marshal the course and help in the event field.

"This is one of our club’s main fund-raising events of the year and we always aim to distribute half of the proceeds to village organisations.”
