A HOTEL in Cornwall which has been welcoming guests for 96 years has closed its doors for the final time.

The Hotel Bristol on Narrowcliff Road in Newquay has made the sad decision to close after mounting maintenance costs due to the age of the building.

The hotel first started taking guests in 1927 and has become a popular place for members of the public to stay and has been highly praised on TripAdvisor.

However, in an emotional post on its Facebook page on Tuesday (October 24) the owners thanked guests and staff for making the Hotel Bristol (Newquay) ‘a place where connections were made, and cherished’.

The post reads: “The time has come that we must bid farewell to the Hotel Bristol. After first welcoming guests as a hotel in 1927, the Hotel Bristol had its doors closed for the final time.

We would like to extend a special thank you to our incredible hotel team led by our dedicated General Manager, Lukasz. Your hard work, passion, and commitment have made Hotel Bristol a beacon of warmth and hospitality. We couldn't have done it without you.

“To all of our valued guests, diners, and the countless people who have hosted and attended events at our hotel, thank you for making the Hotel Bristol a place where connections were made, and cherished moments were shared. Your smiles, laughter, and joy have filled these walls, and we are forever grateful for the experiences we've shared together.”

“Last but not least, a heartfelt thank you to the Young family, the former owners and family behind the Hotel Bristol itself. Your legacy will live on in all those who have had the pleasure of being part of this extraordinary journey. For those unaware of our history, we encourage you to read about it on the history page of our website.

“And whilst it is a sad day for the hotel, it has long seemed an inevitable one. As you can imagine such an old building has its fair share of quirks which have today grown, through mounting maintenance costs, to a point where it is simply not possible to keep the hotel going.
