A NUMBER of severe weather warnings have been issued across the South West as Storm Ciarán is expected to batter Cornwall on Wednesday and Thursday.
Storm Ciarán is expected to bring very strong winds along southern coastal areas of England, where gusts of 70 to 80mph are possible, gusts perhaps exceeding 85 mph in the most exposed locations. Further inland, gusts could reach up to 50 or 60mph.
Met Office chief meteorologist Dan Suri said: “A squally cold front will move eastwards across southern and southeast England bringing bursts of heavy rain and coastal gusts of 60-70mph, mainly from Dorset eastwards.”
An amber weather warning in place for most of Cornwall.
Storm Ciaran is expected to continue into Thursday afternoon.
Here is when and where Storm Ciarán is expected to hit Cornwall on Wednesday evening, according to the Met Office, with the forecast for Thursday then below:
Falmouth
The Met Office has revealed that Storm Ciarán is likely to begin in Falmouth at approximately 5pm Wednesday with an 80 per cent chance of rain. There is also a 70 per cent chance of a thundershower at 11pm.
Truro
According to The Met Office, there is a 95 per cent chance of heavy rain starting in Truro at around 6pm with a 70 per cent chance of a thundershower at 11pm.
Penzance
Heavy rain is expected to hit Penzance at approximately 5pm Wednesday and is likely to continue until 2am on Thursday. A thundershower is also expected between 11pm and 12am.
Helston
Helston will expect light rain from 4pm on Wednesday, however, it is expected to become heavier from about 5pm and will continue until 1am on Thursday. There is also an 80 per cent chance of thundershowers at 11pm Wednesday.
Camborne
Light rain in Camborne is expected to arrive at 4om on Wednesday afternoon and will become heavier throughout the evening. However, no thundershowers are expected in this area.
St Ives
Heavy rain will hit St Ives at around 5pm Wednesdasy and will continue to 7am on Thursday.
Newquay
Heavy rain is expected in Newquay from 6pm Wednesday and will continue to 10am on Thursday.

Falmouth
Thundershowers and heavy rain will begin in Falmouth from 4am on Thursday. The heavy rain will continue throughout the morning before periods of brighter spells at 11am and 12pm. More heavy rain will return at 1pm.
Truro
Heavy rain is expected in Truro from 12am on Thursday. There will be heavy rain throughout the day with thundershowers and hail expected at 2am and 4am.
Penzance
Heavy rain with a mix of thundershowers and hail will begin in Penzance at approximately midnight on Thursday. The rain will continue 10am and there will be sunnier spells throughout the remainder of Thursday afternoon.
Helston
A mixture of heavy rain and light showers will begin in Helston from midnight on Thursday. The rain will continue until 10am, before turning sunny but windy throughout the rest of the day.
Camborne
Heavy rain is expected in Camborne from midnight on Thursday until 8am before turning sunny with strong winds throughout the rest of the day.
St Ives
Heavy rain is expected in St Ives from midnight on Thursday and will continue until 11am on Thursday.
Newquay
The Met Office expects heavy rain to hit Newquay from midnight on Thursday until 1pm.
