Thousands of people across Cornwall will come together next week to remember those who have died in conflicts around the world. 

On Sunday, November 12, Remembrance services, parades and concerts will take place across Cornwall for people to pay their respects.

There will also be services on Saturday, November 11, Armistice Day.

The following list of towns and villages where you can remember and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in times of war.

Camborne:

This year’s Remembrance Parade will take place on Sunday, November 12.

The parade will start at 10am, leaving Commercial Square at 10.40am making its way down Trelowarren Street onto Union Street, across Cross Street, and through Commercial Street before arriving at St Martin and St Meriadoc Parish Church for the laying of wreaths.

Falmouth:

A two-minute silence will be held at St Nazaire Memorial on the Prince of Wales Pier at 10.50am on Saturday, November 11 for the two-minute silence at 11am to mark Armistice Day.

On Sunday, November 12 a remembrance parade leading to a service at Kimberley Park will take place. The parade will depart The Moor for Kimberley Park at 10.35am.

At 11am, a service conducted by Father Froom will take place at the War Memorial including a two minute’s silence and wreath laying.

The parade will depart Kimberley Park at 11.30am for a return to the Moor for a march past and salute by Falmouth’s mayor. At 11.35 the parade will disperse.

Helston:

Remembrance concert at St Michael Church – Saturday, November 11 at 7.30am.

The Helston Royal British Legion is hosting a Remembrance Concert to raise money towards the Poppy Appeal.

Helston Town Band and the Culdrose Military Choir will be joined by Jack Curnow for an evening of music and remembrance.

Tickets will cost £5 and are available to order in advance by calling 01326 561874. They will also be available to buy on the night.

Remembrance Day Parade

On Sunday, November 12 Meneage and Coinagehall Street will be closed from 10am until 12.30pm to facilitate the parade.

The parade will step off from Trengrouse Way Car Park at 10.30am led by Helston Town Band followed by members of the Armed Forces. 

It will then make its way down Meneage Street and through Coinagehall Street before forming at the Monument to lay wreaths.

Chairs will be provided on pavement on either side of the road at the monument for those who cannot stand for the duration of the service.

The Inn and Still, the official venue for the Helston Branch Royal Legion, will be open before the service from 9am and will be serving hot beef rolls with roast potatoes.

Mawnan

Mawnan will hold a Remembrance Day service on Saturday, November 11.

The service will be at the Millennium Cross starting at 10.50am. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the hall. Mawnan WI will lay a wreath and will be making annual donations to the Royal British Legion.

Penryn

Poppy Appeal Concert at Temperance Hall – Friday, November 10 at 7.30pm.

A concert to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal will take place at Temperance Hall on Friday, November 10. Nanskersey Male Choir and Hanah Pascoe will be performing.

Remembrance Day Parade and Armistice. 

On Saturday, November 11 a two-minute silence will be held to remember those who gave their lives serving the country from 11am. Members of the public are being asked to assemble at 10.45am at Penryn Memorial Gardens.

A Remembrance Parade will start at Temperance Hall on Sunday, November 13 at 10.15. The parade will lead off at 10.45am and march towards St Gluvias Church.

Penzance

On Saturday, November 11 there will be a short service and a two-minute silence observed at 11am at the Memorial Gardens in Penlee Park. Members of the public are welcome to attend and are being asked to gather in the gardens from 10.45am.

A parade and service will take place on Sunday, November 12. The civic parade will leave St John’s Hall and march to the War Memorial at Battery Rocks. At 10.50am, a service and wreath laying will take place.

Following the service, Penzance Royal British Legion will provide refreshments and a buffet at their clubhouse on Bread Street which everyone is welcome to attend.

Please note there will be a rolling road closure will be in place from 10.30am until 11am on Alverton Street, The Greenmarket, Market Place, Chapel Street, Under Chapel Yard, Battery Road (from the junction of Under Chapel Yard to the War Memorial)

Porthleven

Members of the public are being asked to assemble at the Public Hall at 2pm on Sunday, November 12. A service will take place at St Bartholomew’s Church at 2.15pm followed by Wreath Laying at the War Memorial.

There will also be an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial on Saturday, November 11 at 11am.

Redruth

Members of the public are invited to take part in Remembrance Sunday proceedings.

The parade will form on Sea View Terrace from 10am. It will then leave at 10.30am before heading along Albany Road and onto Victoria Park where a two-minute service is conducted at 11am. Organisations will then lay wreaths around the war memorial.

The parade then leaves Victoria Park at approximately 11.20am and will head back down Albany Road and onto Heaton Terrace.

All are welcome to join a service and light refreshments at 12pm in St Andrew’s Church.

St Keverne and St Peter’s Church, Coverack

On Sunday an Act of Remembrance will take place in St Keverne Square followed by a service in St Keverne Church at 10.45. At 12.30pm there will be an Act of Remembrance at St Peter’s Church.

Truro

On Thursday, November 9 Truro mayor Councillor Carol Swain and Mayoress Sarah Douglas-Martin will hand over a poppy wreath to a representative of GWR so it can be transported to London along with wreaths from other towns and cities across the South West as part of this year’s Poppies to Paddington event.

On Saturday, November 11 a two-minute silence at the War Memorial in Boscawen Street will begin at 11. The silence will be led by the Truro Branch of the Royal British Legion.

On Sunday, November 12 there will be a Act of Remembrance at Boscawen Street at 2.30pm followed by a military parade, pausing for the salute with His Majesty the King’s Lord-Lieutenant for Cornwall Col E T Bolitho.

The military parade will make its way to High Cross for the formation of the Guard of Honour, before being joined by the Civic procession. This will be followed by the Service of Remembrance at 3.15pm at Truro Cathedral.
