Temporary traffic lights on the A39 at the Norway Inn have been branded “ridiculous” after causing long queues on the road this morning.

Investigation works are currently taking place near the Mylor Bridge into why water is flowing onto the road making it dangerous.

The traffic lights, which are in place until November 17, are causing long queues in both directions.

In another update issued today (November 14) Cornwall Council said: "The two-way traffic lights on the A39 at Stickenbridge, between Perranarworthal and Treluswell roundabout will have to remain in place for at least the next few days due to excess ground water making the road surface unsafe."

Cornwall Council have now issued a traffic alert as "rush" approaches saying: "There are currently two-way traffic lights on the A39 at Stickenbridge, between Perranarworthal and Treluswell roundabout.

"This is for public safety due to a significant amount of water coming up through the road surface.

"Please avoid the area if possible as there will be delays in both directions."

Road users report being caught up in queues going all the way back to the Devoran roundabout at the bottom of the dual carriageway and all the way back past the Trelusswell roundabout to the lay-by.

One person who was caught up in the traffic said it was “ridiculous”. They reported: “Temporary traffic lights now gone up on Truro Road by the fruit and veg place. Traffic queued back to Devoran roundabout from Truro direction and over Treluswell to just before the layby where burger van is heading towards Truro! It’s ridiculous.”

The A39 going through the trees between the Norway Inn often become flooded during heavy rain and recently was completely covered by the high during Storm Ciaran.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix reports: “Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A39 near Flushing Turn Off. Until 17th November.”
