A charity which teaches children in Cornwall how to fish has launched a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs for a new sheltered area with better facilities.
The Mighty Anglers CIC is a fishing club based at Kernow Coarse Fishery in Hayle. The club, which takes place every Saturday aims to help children and their families learn how to fish.
Since it was launched by Ryan Curnow in March, the club has become increasingly popular with more than 70 children attending to learn the art of fishing.
Ryan and the team are now looking to expand the club and offer angling to all schools, youth clubs and other charities in the area.
However, to be able to achieve this, they are now looking to raise nearly £5,000 for a log cabin to be installed so the children and their families have somewhere to go for hot food and drinks, as well as a classroom and a clubhouse.
Ryan, who himself has been fishing from a young age describes the club as ‘truly unique’. He said: “I started fishing at a young age.
“I was from a single-parent family, so I had to rely on friends and neighbours to learn how to fish.
“I was diagnosed with severe epilepsy when I was younger and was in and out of intensive care. This made me decide to lease a couple of lakes, and since then it’s been full steam ahead.
“We hope we can raise funds for the log cabin, so the kids can have somewhere to go when the weather is bad, but somewhere they can learn and relax during fishing.”
Ryan along with the rest of his team has now planned some fundraising events. He said: “We have set up the GoFundMe Page and we also have a big Christmas party planned.
“When, and if the weather improves in January, we will be hosting charity matches with other clubs across Cornwall.
“We hope that we can help these kids and provide them with unforgettable memories.”
