A CORNWALL town has announced this year's list of festive events taking place next month.
The whole town of Newquay is gearing up for the huge light-up night on Friday, December 1 , and across the first festive weekend, with its beautiful lantern parade, Christmas lights switch-on, and fireworks.
Newquay residents and visitors alike can also take the opportunity to shop sustainably, supporting both the local high street retailers as well as Cornish makers and producers.
Right across the weekend, the Newquay Christmas Market, a collaboration between Cornwall Shop Small, Newquay Farmers Market and Love Newquay (Newquay BID) with the support of Newquay Council events, will be running on the festive action-packed Killacourt.
Following on from the success of the inaugural street markets in May and September, the same team is back with this special festive event tying in with the town's lights switch on and Christmas celebrations on the Friday.
Sarah Curley of Cornwall Shop Small says: "Our festoon lit marquee on the Killacourt will be brimming with seasonal shop small delights from an array of local creators and curators.
"Shoppers can expect gorgeous contemporary crafts, art and design, home and lifestyle wares, curated vintage, fashion and accessories, artisan food and drink and a selection of seasonal goodies, treats and gifts.
"It's all about giving shoppers the opportunity to shop locally this Christmas. Our Newquay Christmas Market will be full of local heart where people can discover the unique and beautiful whilst supporting their local community and economy."
Caroline Hinks of Newquay Farmers Market said: “We are thrilled to bring a perfectly bijoux selection of festive foodie traders to the event. Visitors can expect the finest deli products including cheese, olives, nuts, pickles, and chutneys, as well as mouth-watering freshly baked goods by artisan local bakers.
"There will be something to satisfy every palate so everyone can indulge in savoury and sweet treats that will give a touch of magic to their festive celebrations."
"We will feature artisan spirits and wines alongside hot sauces and rubs that will be available for those seeking to add a little extra kick to their Christmas feasts. I am thrilled to be a part of the Christmas Market on the Newquay Killacourt.
"Supporting local businesses whilst bringing a vibrant market to Newquay is what it’s all about and I’m confident that our festive foodie traders will provide a unique and delicious shopping experience for all."
The Newquay Christmas Markets will run on the following days and times:
- Friday, December 1, 2-9pm.
- Saturday, December 2, 10am-4pm.
- Sunday, December 3, 10am-2pm.
Manager of Love Newquay and Newquay BID, Mark Warren, said, “It’s such a joy to see all our proactive organisations coming together in this way to optimise our Christmas kick-off celebrations.
"It’s brilliant to have both Cornwall Shop Small and Newquay Farmer’s Market bringing all of their creative makers and talented producers to add to the incredible selection of independent shops and retailers up and down our Newquay high street.”
"The whole festive extravaganza kicks off on Friday 1st December and runs right across Saturday 2 and Sunday 3, December. All of this will boost footfall numbers, and ultimately revenue, for the local businesses, whilst every one of all ages is coming into town and having a magical time.
"We’re looking forward to seeing all our local businesses engaging in the festivities and staying open into the evening on December 1 to make the most of the increased shoppers within the town."
