Households in Cornwall are more likely to be green energy champions than anywhere else in England.
New data by iChoosr, an organisation promoting renewable energy, reveals the region has the highest proportion of households either generating their own electricity or owning an electric car.
The research considered households using renewable sources, such as solar panels, wind turbines and heat pumps, and those that have switched to electric vehicles.
Findings showed one in seven Cornish households have installed renewable sources, while one in six either have a renewable energy source or own an electric car.
George Frost, UK Country Manager at iChoosr, said: "Higher household energy bills and growing desires for more sustainable lifestyle options mean rising numbers of UK households are turning to renewable and energy-efficient ways to power their homes.
"The days of renewable solutions being inaccessible and unaffordable are gone".
Besides Cornwall, three landlocked counties: Rutland, Herefordshire, and Cambridgeshire featured in the top five green regions, each with over 11% of residents using renewables at home.
Cambridge resident Anil Chhabra recently installed solar panels and said: "I’m very pleased with them.
"They’re helping me in two ways, they offset my energy costs, making my bills cheaper.
"But also, I feel I’m doing my bit for the environment."
