An application to turn a former live music venue that has lain empty for nearly six years into a ground floor restaurant and flats has been withdrawn.
The previous occupants of the building at 4 Killigrew Street, live music venue, bar and club Mono, closed its doors after three years in February 2018.
Since then the building, which before that used to be the iconic Nancy's Bar, has lain empty. At the time of the closure of Mono the owner, former Ordinary Boys drummer Charlie Stanley, blamed sky high business rates and a lack of support from the council.
However the live music venue had already been forced to close its upstairs performance venue after it failed fire safety regulations, despite that being its main source of income.
Before the upstairs was closed it had seen legendary performances by local bands Black Tambourines, The Red Cords and Lost Dawn as well as national and international acts.
An application was lodged in April 2022 to possibly turn the empty building into an Asian style restaurant possibly Chinese or Thai, although no details were given. The applicants were a Mr T Hoang and Mr D Jones with at least one of them thought to be living locally.
However Cornwall Council has now told Falmouth Town Council that the application has been withdrawn.
The council did originally support the application but raised fears that it may be turned into a home of multiple occupancy (HMO).
The application has been lodged through the Residential Design Studio in Falmouth and will be considered by Falmouth Town Council's planning committee on Monday night.
It is proposed to resume the operation of the ground floor bar and restaurant area as a revived venue and to convert the above ancillary accommodation into a single dwelling for the enjoyment of the owners.
The early 19th century town house has previously been a bank and a shop. It still has its original features on the outside over three storeys with a three bay frontage.
It is not clear why the application was withdrawn or whether a new application would be made.
