A POPULAR reindeer run that was scheduled to take place on New Year's Eve has been cancelled due to low take-up of the event.

The Penlee Reindeer Run, which was scheduled to take place over five kilometres, from Penlee Lifeboat Station to Jubilee Pool, would have put the funds raised towards supporting Penlee Lifeboat Station but will now no longer go ahead.

Runners were also advised to look out for Rookie the Reindeer along the route, and prizes would have been given out for the best reindeer costumes.

However, Penlee Lifeboat station has said it isn't too late to enter the RNLI's Reindeer Run challenge, where those taking part can run their own routes in order to raise vital lifesaving funds for the RNLI.

In an update posted on its social media page, Penlee Lifeboat said: "We’re sorry to say that the Penlee Reindeer Run scheduled for 31st December has been cancelled.

"Due to low take up of the event we made the difficult decision not to go ahead. We understand that this may be disappointing, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

"It’s not too late to enter the RNLI’s Reindeer Run Challenge and run your own routes in aid of the RNLI. You can find out more here: RNLI Reindeer Run Challenge."
