A Cornish beach will soon welcome a mobile community sauna which will feature panoramic coastline views.
The unique sauna named ‘Kiln’ will offer complimentary sessions on Friday and Saturday, December 22 and 23 at Gllyngvase Beach.
The project which drew inspiration from sauna traditions around the world was conceived, designed, and realised by Kathryn Tyler, a Falmouth Art College graduate, and Angus Thatcher, who together run Linea Studio.
With eight seats inside, the sauna – handcrafted by local workshop Saunas by the Sea in Wadebridge can accommodate private groups or shared social sessions to potentially provide health benefits such as detoxifications, pain reduction, alleviation of depression and improved cardiovascular function.
Pricing is community-friendly with sessions starting at £8, or £6.50 for locals as part of a package.
In line with Nordic traditions, guests are encouraged to alternate between the sauna and cold showers of sea dips. Optimal benefits, as researched by Dr Susanna Søberg, involve alternating cold water immersion and heat exposure.
Kathryn and Angus, lead local design practice Linea Studio and have infused 'Kiln' with design principles drawn from Japanese Teahouses, historically retreats for transcending worldly distractions and seeking enlightenment through tea, considered a medium for nurturing mind, body, and spirit.
Private 30-minute sessions will be priced at £50 or to join a social session is £8 per person.
There is also a 15% discount at checkout, valid on sessions from 24th to 27th December, with codes XMAS15 (Christmas Social 30) and XMASPRIVATE15 (Christmas Private 30). For more information, visit www.kilnsauna.com.
