A popular and well-used ‘free library’ which had fallen into disrepair has been replaced with a more substantial and weatherproof version.
For some years now, outside the home of Sarah Perry and Philip Lyons in Marlborough Road, Falmouth, there has been a popular and well-used 'Free Library'.
It provides a place for those looking for a book to read to find one, or a place where books, once read, can be deposited for others to enjoy.
It has been available for some years now, but had fallen into disrepair.
Time had taken its toll, and not only had the box housing the library deteriorated, but its lack of a protection from the elements has resulted in a degree of water damage to the books inside.
However, Rob Coleman, a supporter of the library, stepped in by making a replacement library which is not only brighter in appearance, but also weatherproof, with doors that will protect the contents against the ravages of the Cornish climate.
To celebrated the “refurbishment” of the library residents and supporters recently had an 'official opening ceremony' attended by many of its supporters, all of whom supplied books with which to stock it.
The new library was publicly unveiled to a host of local supporters, all bringing books to stock the library, on the afternoon of Sunday, December 17.
Those present were treated to generous helpings of mulled wine and mince pies care of Sarah and Philip. The fully-stocked library is now 'open', and represents a valuable resource for locals and visitors alike.
