A dog owner narrowly missed being pulled into the sea with her pet by a huge wave while running across the harbour wall at Porthleven during Storm Gerrit.
The moment was captured on video by local resident Joanne Clement as she was enjoying a hot chocolate in a harbourside café yesterday (December 27) opposite the Ship Inn.
Many people had gathered in the port to witness the heavy waves as Storm Gerrit battered the UK.
But one woman took it even further running across the wall that protects the inner harbour next to the pub narrowly escaping being swept into the sea but a large wave.
At one point she was even seen gesturing for her partner to join her as waves crashed over the wall.
Joanne who runs her own wedding business cornwall-elopements.co.uk which helps plan eco-friendly adventure weddings on the Cornwall coastline as well as www.enchantedbrides.photography, told the Packet the woman and dog were lucky to escape being swept into the sea.
She said: “We live in Porthleven and often witness a lot of stupidity when the waves are big but this is the first time we have seen anyone stupid enough with a dog over on that section.
“The waves were sweeping across with force and they got lucky as the one before and directly after was much bigger and stronger and they would have definitely been dragged into the sea.
“I was enjoying a hot choc in Naiti with my 11-year-old son and when he knows to respect the sea. We felt more sorry for the poor dog they were dragging around.
“We could see her, think it was a her, laughing and waving and calling someone else to join them apparently she was taking photos of the dog and thought it was all very funny.
“The coastguards that then need to rescue such idiots.”
The coastguard has been warning people to stay away from the sea as Storm Gerrit batters the UK.
