A POPULAR fine-dining restaurant in Falmouth has been notified it will soon be included in one of the most prestigious restaurant guides around.

The Mulberry, an underground fine-dining restaurant on Falmouth's High Street has been informed it will soon be featuring in the Michelin Guide, one of the most prestigious restaurant guides in the world.

Having opened its doors for the first time last April and being run by head chefs Harry Cartwright and Jay Brady, the Mulberry has gone from strength to strength and was awarded two AA rosettes, which are awarded for 'culinary excellence,' back in August of last year.

Speaking to The Packet about the news, Jay said: "Ever since Harry and I were around 16 or 17, very young chefs, it's always been a dream to have a restaurant in the Michelin Guide. And yeah, we got an email a couple of weeks ago informing us that we're going to be in it.

"We were just massively surprised, having only been open for nearly two years, it's a massive achievement and we're so, so pleased. It's unbelievable."

Jay went on to explain that the restaurant had received emails from customers claiming they had contacted the Michelin Guide about the Mulberry due to their experiences there.

"We've had a couple of customers email us saying 'we've emailed  Michelin, we feel like you deserve to be in the guide at a minimum,' so that might have helped along the way," Jay added.

"It's massively helpful to have such a good customer base as we've had. The support we've had from so many customers is just so lovely. It feels like we're turning a corner now and building a reputation for ourselves, which is really nice."

Jay also mentioned that he felt both Falmouth, and Cornwall as a whole, had a growing food scene and that He and Harry were ready to build on their successes for the future.

"Falmouth feels like it's got a growing food scene, Harry and I were saying it recently actually. Restaurant Meudon recently got in the Michelin Guide, Culture got heir green Michelin Star recently, and we get on really well with Hilton at Culture and he congratulated us on our achievement. Then there's Restaurant Mine which is another massive restaurant in Falmouth, so we feel like we're building a really nice food scene here."

Hailing from Cornwall, Jay trained at the Nathan Outlaw Academy as a teenager. He spent two years at the Mariner’s in Rock upon graduating, before gaining a place at Outlaw’s two-Michelin-starred restaurant in Port Isaac.

Originally from Hampshire, Jay's business partner Harry has worked in international restaurants from Australia to Central America. He finds particular inspiration from Spanish and Mexican cuisine. Working for a year at the Ruin Beach cafe on the Isles of Scilly led him to eventually settle in Cornwall.
