POLICE have given an update on the body of a woman which was found on a beach in Falmouth.
Officers were called to Gyllyngvase Beach, Falmouth at 10.50am on Monday, January 1, 2024 to reports that the body of a woman had been found at the water's edge.
Shortly after the discovery, Devon and Cornwall Police put out an appeal to the public for their help in identifying the body, which it described was that of a white woman aged approximately between 50 and 70 years of age.
Devon and Cornwall Police have since released an update claiming that a potential identity has been brought to their attention, however, police enquiries are still ongoing in order to assist the coroner with formal identification.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called to concerns of a body being found on Gyllyngvase Beach, Falmouth, at 10.50am on Monday 1 January.
"Following an appeal, a potential identity has been brought to police attention.
"We have informed next of kin and our enquiries continue in order to assist the coroner with formal identification.
"Her death is not being treated as suspicious.
"Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter."
