Canon Simon Robinson will be appointed as the new Dean of Truro Cathedral from the end of this month.

It's been announced that the sixth Dean will be formally installed by the Bishop of St Germans, the Right Rev'd Hugh Nelson on January 21.

The event will be part of a Choral Evensong service starting at 4pm.

Canon Simon Robinson joined Truro Cathedral in October 2022 as interim dean and was subsequently appointed as dean-designate.

The appointment ceremony will feature a sermon by the Reverend Prebendary Stephen Stuckes, rector of the Cuckmere Churches in the diocese of Chichester.

Additionally, Truro Cathedral Choir will perform musical selections including 'Magnificat' and 'Nunc Dimitiis', chosen by Mr Robinson himself and composed by former resident composer Dobrinka Tabakova.

The installation event is open to everyone and is followed by a reception with refreshments.

This will provide a relaxed setting for attendees to mingle and converse post-installation.

Mr Robinson, prior to his ordination, enjoyed a successful career in the education sector and was an erstwhile vicar of Minehead.

Additionally, he has held the position of chair of the diocesan board of education for the diocese of Bath and Wells, and is a member of diocesan, general synod, and trust boards.

Canon Simon is a recognised religious leader, having completed the Strategic Leadership Development Programme in 2021 - a five-year course for clergy recognised as potential future leaders.

Rt Revd Hugh Nelson, Bishop of St Germans, said: "After more than a year as interim dean, I have come to admire and value dean Simon’s gifts as a pastor, leader, and disciple of Jesus Christ.

"I am absolutely delighted to be formalising his role in Cornwall’s wonderful cathedral and am deeply grateful that he has responded to the call to serve in Truro."

In response, Mr Robinson said: "It is a privilege to have been called to Truro Cathedral and to Cornwall.

"I am ever grateful for the kind and warm welcome that I have received and look forward to continuing the work of this great cathedral, a place of worship, hospitality and welcome for everyone who lives and works and visits Cornwall."

Truro Cathedral, a self-funded entity, holds a significant spiritual and physical presence in the city.

The cathedral continues to develop pedagogical plans, ensuring the organisation's legacy's resilience, prosperity, and continued service to the communities of Cornwall.
