An outline planning application has been submitted for a luxury 39-lodge holiday park in Newquay, which would sit on the opposite side of the road to the popular Newquay Holiday Park run by Parkdean Holidays.
The plans, by applicant Thomas Walker, would see the demolition of existing structures on the site at The Mawes, Lower Tregenna, three miles to the west of Newquay, as well as the conversion of an existing house to provide a reception building and manager’s accommodation, associated infrastructure including a pumping station, landscaping, access and parking.
A planning statement said: “The applicant and their family will own and manage the lodges and have extensive experience over the last 30 years in this business sector in Newquay.
"The scheme will deliver high quality modern tourist accommodation within a landscaped setting that reflects the character of the wider area, will support the tourism economy and deliver a range of benefits.
“The property is situated in very close proximity to the Parkdean Newquay Holiday Park on the opposite side of the A3059 road.
"In June 2023, Cornwall Council approved an application for the development of a further 60 hard standing lodge bases and concluded that the Parkdean site is a sustainable location for further tourist development. In locational and accessibility terms there is no difference between that site and this application site.”
The statement added: “The proposals for the park will be limited to 39 luxury lodge units in an exclusive and quiet setting.
"The over-riding intention will be to create a tranquil holiday destination nestled into the landscape, respecting the natural rolling contours of the land, the wooded areas, the mature hedges and trees as well as being respectful to the Porth stream and waterway that runs through the bottom of the proposal site.”
A decision will be made either by Cornwall Council’s planning department or by committee on a future date. For more details on the application, visit the planning portal on the council's website using reference PA23/09909.
