A STUDENT from an award-winning school in Cornwall has been ranked as the top young archer in the UK.
Truro High School for Girls’ Saffron Knowles has started the new year in style with a brand new ranking as the top young archer in the country.
Saffron is already on the pathway to the Olympics and her new ranking as Number 1 in the U14 Junior Women’s Recurve shows she is well on target to achieve her dream.
Saffron, who is 13 years old, has also been ranked 13th in the country in the highly competitive U21 Women’s category; a fantastic achievement for a girl of her age and a significant improvement on the previous year.
The rankings are based on Saffron’s performance at a series of competitions around the UK over the 12 months. She regularly travels to Sport England’s new £3.6 million Performance Archery Centre at Lilleshall in Shropshire for training and Saffron is now looking for a sponsor to assist her with travel costs as she continues her journey towards the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
This weekend Saffron will be back at Lilleshall at the personal invitation of Team GB Olympian Tom Hall who has invited her to train with him and try out some of his state-of-the-art archery equipment.
Friends and teachers at Truro High School are incredibly proud of her achievements and Saffron is part of the school’s Aspiring Athletes programme which provides support and mentoring to those competing in sport at the very highest levels.
If you or your company is interested in sponsoring Saffron, please contact the Communications Team at Truro High School on 01872 242978.
