The results of a public consultation over moving the rising bollard in Falmouth have still not been made known despite it ending in October.
Cormac started the consultation on behalf of Cornwall Council on proposals to move the bollard from the junction of Market Street and Church Street to the entrance of Market Street on September 12 last year. It ended on October 5.
However just over three months later the results of the consultation have not been released.
Cornwall Council have been contacted by the Packet asking when the results of the public consultation can be expected.
Church Street has been the subject of a traffic restriction order since 2022 restricting traffic from using the road between 11am and 4pm.
However a lack of enforcement led to complaints about a rise in the number of vehicles now entering the road during the pedestrian zone restricted hours.
It is proposed to improve compliance, by relocating the rising bollard currently positioned on Church Street, to the gateway to the restricted area at the start of Market Street.
Gateway features will be used to improve the overall aesthetic of and emphasise the gateway to Market Street and the town centre.
There will be new signage, lining and a blended pedestrian crossing.
There have been strong objections from the public about the pedestrianisation of the town centre and the loss of Church Street car park, which some people say will kill business in the town centre.
The car park’s future use is subject to ongoing devolution discussions with the town council over a change of use.
As part of the current traffic restrictions, access to Church Street car park is not permitted during the pedestrian zone hours except for permit holders.
