A Cornish pub has been named one of the best in the UK according to a national travelling guide.
The Blisland Inn has been named among a list featuring 11 other UK pubs compiled by National Geographic Traveller UK.
The Blisland, near Bodmin Moor, was ranked eighth out of 12 and was selected for its "welcoming selection of hand-pulls on the bar", with the guide calling it a "genuine gem of a pub."
National Geographic Traveller UK said: “This dog-friendly destination is a genuine gem of a pub — and a rich reward after a ramble on the wild and rugged Bodmin Moor.
“There’s a bit of fancy food here, but with tankards and Toby jugs dangling from the beams, the beer is, first and foremost, the focus.
“The heart-warming selection of hand-pulls on the bar has, unsurprisingly, won it a whole load of pub gongs and you can soak up the suds with scotch eggs and pork pies.”
The Blisland is one of 11 ranked, along with other UK pubs such as The Bell Inn (Aldworth), The Oxford Bar (Edinburgh), and Queen’s Head (Cambridgeshire).
The full list is as follows:
The Bell Inn, Aldworth
The Oxford Bar, Edinburgh
Southhampton Arms, North London
The Dyffryn Arms, Cwm Gwaun
Ypres Inn, Rye
Pride of Spitalfields, East London
Basketmakers, Brighton
The Blisland Inn, Cornwall
The Magnet, Stockport
Birch Hall Inn, North Yorkshire
Queen's Head, Cambridgeshire
Sunflower, Belfast
This isn’t the first time that The Blisland has been named as one of the best.
In November 2023 the Packet reported that it had beaten nine other nominees to be named the best in its season by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Kernow.
Each year CAMRA judges each nominated pub on the quality of real and cider, style, décor, furnishings, cleanliness, service, welcoming and offering, community focus and atmosphere and alignment with CAMRA principles – each factor which ultimately named The Blisland Inn the Pub of the Season in 2023.
The Blisland is also a regular in The Good Beer Guide having appeared in 43 out of 51 editions.
