Some of the best Sunday roasts served in Cornwall have been ranked in a new list released by The Times.
While it may feel like there is a new list every week, this one is a little different as it’s voted by some of the country’s top chefs.
The chefs were asked by The Times to select their favourite Sunday lunch destinations and explain why.
Votes included places in North Yorkshire, Kent, Cotswold and of course, Cornwall.
The Mariners (Rock), The Queen’s Head (Padstow), and Coombeshead (Lewannick) all in Cornwall were ranked in The Best 25 Sunday Roast List compiled by The Times.
Michelin-Star chef Tom Kerridge said that The Mariners “picked all the boxes” and praised it for “being a beautiful place to overlook the estuary going into the other side of Padstow” in summer and winter. He also tributed fellow chef, Paul Ainsworth for doing “brilliant Sunday lunches.”
Fellow Michelin-Star Paul Ainsworth voted for The Golden Lion in Padstow for its Sunday roasts. Paul said“I’ve been going here for years.
“It’s owned by the Rickard family and it’s a quintessential British pub. It’s a traditional pub with really low ceilings.
“Midweek is fantastic – I love their fish and Chips – but on a Sunday, it’s the best place for a roast. I love their cauliflower and leek fondue.”
The Coombeshead Farm in Lewannick was voted for by Nicholas Balfe, chef-director of Holm in Somerset. “The Sunday lunches here are hearty, wholesome food from the land,” said Nicholas. “Reared on the farm by a passionate team and you can taste the love that’s gone into it.”
