Hall for Cornwall has revealed what’s in store for audiences this year, following a successful 2023.
In the past six weeks, Hall for Cornwall has welcomed the 500,000th visitor to its Cornwall Playhouse, whilst receiving critical acclaim for its production of ‘Made in Cornwall’ Peter Pan starring Kernow King (Edward Rowe).
As well as this, more than 3,000 tickets have already been purchased for its Christmas 2024 production of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Hall for Cornwall chief executive Julien Boast said: “2023 was a knockout year for us.
“We were proud to welcome the Duke of Edinburgh for the first time since our renovation, we toasted the return of the Royal Shakespeare Company, The National Theatre, and we celebrated two shows from our own production company – Cornwall Playhouse Productions – taking to our stage.
“Firstly, Fisherman’s Friends the Musical in the spring, and Peter Pan in December which earned a four-star rating from The Stage Newspaper.
“And finally, we welcomed our 500,000th visitor just after Christmas.
“2023 was a year to remember for us all, and as we head into 2024 with this announcement of our latest shows, we’ve set the bar high for what we hope to achieve in the years to come.”
Hall for Cornwall has revealed what highlights the next 12 months will bring.
This week, it was announced that Broadway’s production of Hairspray will be making its debut. However, the shows will take place in January 2025, but priority booking is now available.
Since breaking box office records and delighting audiences in the West End, Broadway and on the big screen since 1988, the upbeat, musical comedy will be coming to Cornwall Playhouse from January 13 to 18, 2025.
The story tells the tale of Tracy Turnbland, a teenager with big hair, a big heart, and a big dream to dance her way onto national TV. On her journey to become accepted, Tracy befriends teen idol, Link Larkin along with Little Inez, Seaweed and Motormouth Maybelle, who stand with her to fight intolerance, bigotry, and racism, as they strive to bring unity in the city of Baltimore.
A spokesperson for Hall for Cornwall said: “This fun-filled, feel-good show is bursting with show-stopping numbers, dazzling costumes, and dizzying dance routines that you can’t help but shimmy too!
“It will feature some of the musical theatre’s biggest and best-hit songs, including ‘Welcome to the 60s’, ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’, ‘Good Morning Baltimore’, and so many more. Hairspray is the hilarious, joyous, and uplifting musical for all.”
Other highlights for 2024 include:
- West-End production of Only Fools and Horses: The Musical
- Dawn French will return after an injury forced her to cancel her show in 2023.
- Singer-songwriter Leo Sayer
- The Hungry Caterpillar and the Tiger Who Came to Tea.
