A girl-guiding group from Helston spent part of their weekend helping to plant hundreds of tree saplings at a local National Trust Site.
Girls from the second Brownie unit in Helston spent a day at the weekend helping to plant the saplings alongside group leader Sam Goldsworthy and her family as well as the children Sam looks after during the week.
The saplings have been planted at the Penrose National Trust Site, just behind the Fairground Car Park near Coronation Boating Lake, Helston.
Several varieties of tree saplings were supplied for the girls to plant including hazel, wild cherry, rowan, field maple and willow.
The Brownie’s tree planting activity was part of a wider initiative launched by the National Trust which hopes to see more than 20 million trees planted across the United Kingdom by 2030.
So far, 1 million tree saplings have been planted across National Trust sites in the UK, including 22 species of tree, including oak, beech, and crab apple.
Now that the saplings have been firmly planted in Helston, the young Brownies have earned their tree-planting badge and are ready to take on their next activity.
With future activities and challenges planned, Sam hopes more young girls are interested in joining the unit. She said: “If you like adventures, camping and earning badges, please do get in touch.
“Helston Second Brownie Group currently have spaces.
“We meet on a Tuesday at Parc Eglos Primary School between 6.30pm and 8pm and is open for girls aged between seven and ten years of age.”
