Outdoor activities retail chain Mountain Warehouse has confirmed it will be moving two of its Cornwall stores into two former Wilko sites.
The outdoor retail chain says the move of its stores in Falmouth and Truro will create more space for its product range.
Falmouth's Mountain Warehouse, currently on Market Street, will move to the former Wilko store, across the road also in Market Street, sometime in the near future.
Truro's Mountain Warehouse store currently in Victoria Square will move into the much bigger premises on Boscawen Street formerly occupied by Wilko. The move is expected to take place in March.
A spokesperson for Mountain Warehouse said: "We can confirm that we will be relocating our Truro store to a larger site at 18-20 Boscawen St, Truro TR1 2QW, and our Falmouth store to a site located at 19 Market St, Falmouth TR11 3AS.
"The spacious new stores mean we will continue to offer our customers the widest choice of great quality, outdoor clothing and equipment for all the family."
Truro BID manager Alun Jones said: “Truro BID on behalf of Truro City Centre are delighted to learn that retailer Mountain warehouse are due to relocate into the larger store previously occupied by Wilko.
"We understand that this will involve additional local employment which again is very much welcomed. This relocation to larger premises which is currently planned for early March is a positive indication of the trading confidence within Truro.”
The Wilko stores have stood empty since September last year after the company went into administration.
Falmouth Wilko was among one of the first group of shops to close following the dramatic collapse of the high street chain last September. The Truro store followed soon after.
Wilko shut 24 stores across the UK in the first phase of closures, with hundreds of workers at the shops made redundant.
All the group’s remaining shop, warehouse and support centre workers also lost their jobs.
Family-owned Wilko employed 12,500 staff and ran 400 shops before it hired administrators after coming under pressure from weak consumer spending and debts to suppliers.
Mountain Warehouse, which sell a variety of gear for outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, camping, running and cycling, however has bucked the trend and have had a successful year with the retailer able to expand its business.
