Tomorrow marks the one day of the year when it is officially acceptable to have pancakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Pancake Day is here once again, and many places across Cornwall are celebrating the day by serving both sweet and savoury pancakes throughout the day.
So, if you’re a lemon and sugar, or maple syrup and bacon person and want to embrace the day by going out with family and friends, here is our list of places offering homemade pancakes on Shrove Tuesday:
Poldhu Beach Café, Mullion
The popular beach café will be serving American-style pancakes from 9.30am until they are sold out. Ross Hocking owner of the café shared his excitement for the day in a post shared on Facebook. It reads: “Tomorrow is the best day of the year (except for Flora Day according to my wife!)
“We will be serving POLDHU Pancakes from 9.30am on Tuesday, February 13 until we sell out.”
Lakeside Café, Helston Coronation Boating Lake
The Lakeside Café is offering a wide range of pancakes between 10am and 3pm on Tuesday and until February 18.
According to the café, the homemade pancakes will be dairy-free and will be served with a topping of your choice. The following pancakes will be available on the day:
- The Classic One – with lemon and sugar.
- The Berry One – smothered in summer berries and topped with natural yoghurt.
- The Banoffee One - filled with sliced bananas, rich caramel sauce, buttery biscuit crumbs, and whipped cream.
- The Neapolitan One – a scoop of chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream, with a drizzle of strawberry sauce, sprinkles, and whipped cream.
- The Breakfast One – with eggs benedict, ham, spinach topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce.
- The American One – stacked with crispy bacon and drizzled with maple syrup.
The Cellar Tapas Bar, Helston
The newly opened tapas bar on Wendron Street will be offering pancakes topped with coconut, and ice cream as a dessert alongside menu items.
Wendron Pancake Barn, Helston
Although pancakes are served here every day – the team at the Pancake Barn are expecting an extremely busy day. Pancakes with a variety of different toppings will be served throughout the day, along with cakes and ice creams. There is indoor and outdoor seating, with two play areas for children.
Slipway Ice Cream, Praa Sands
Pancakes will be served between 9.30am and 6pm on Tuesday, February 13.
Sealife Soft Play, Penzance
The soft play centre in Penzance is hosting a Pancake Party between 10am and 11.30am. Children will be able to decorate pancakes before eating. Pancakes will cost £5 per child. People are being asked to prebook by visiting the Sealife Soft Play Facebook page.
Tyack Hotel, Camborne
Tyack’s will be offering both sweet and savoury pancakes throughout the day on Shrove Tuesday. Savoury pancakes will cost £7 whilst sweet ones will be £6.
Pancakes include:
- Savoury American Pancakes with crispy smoked bacon and maple syrup.
- Savoury American Pancakes with spinach, poached eggs, and cheese sauce
- Sticky BBQ pulled pork and pork popcorn.
- Sweet crepes with chocolate brownie chunks, chocolate sauce and whipped cream
- Crepes with banana, chocolate shavings, butterscotch sauce, and whipped cream
- Crepes with lemon and sugar
Saint Piran Café, Truro
Saint Piran Café is offering diners the chance to indulge in either sweet or savoury pancakes throughout the day on Shrove Tuesday. The café is based on The Old Conns Work in Bissoe.
12 Lemon Street, Truro
It’s a Pancake Party at 12 Lemon Street this week. On Tuesday, February 13 the inclusive & creative co-working space in the centre will be welcoming people to chat over pancakes and coffee between 10am and 11am.
Palacio Lounge – Falmouth
The tapas bar is switching it up this week, by offering ‘pancake tapas’ alongside other items on the menu.
A spokesperson for Palacio Lounge said: “Since Pancake Day falls on Tapas Tuesday, we’re switching it up by offering pancake tapas!
“Little Loungers and Big Loungers can enjoy a selection of three pancake tapas with chocolate sauce, maple syrup and strawberry sauce, all topped with sprinkles, marshmallows and bananas.”
Boards will cost £5 for three plates, with 60p from each board going to the Lounge Aid Charity at Royal Cornwall Hospital.
Other places in Cornwall which will be serving pancakes throughout the day include Cornwall Gold (Portreath, Newquay), WAX (Newquay), In The Mix Bakery (Pool), Liskeard Library (Liskeard), Orange Café Bar (Mousehole) and Tide and Thyme (Truro).
