A new addition to one of Falmouth's popular coastal paths has not gone down well with some residents - who feel the change 'stinks'.
One of the benches overlooking Pennance Point and Swanpool beach is now accompanied by a dog waste bin.
It caused quite a debate when a picture of the new view was shared on the Packet Facebook page over the weekend.
And while many feel that it obstructs the beloved pristine view, questioning whether it needs to be moved away, others see the positives and are confused about all the complaining.
A reader told the Falmouth Packet: "The magnificent view from a bench overlooking Pennance Point and Swanpool beach has a new addition; a dog bin, of the bigger variety, placed smack in the eye-line, thanks to Cornwall Council’s busywork department."
This unseemly addition was met with a chorus of criticism, as locals reiterated: "It's close to where people eat their food" and that it is now "a rubbish view".
Yet the responses were not solely negative.
One resident pointed out: "Better than no bin at all", while another optimistically added: "Let's hope people use it."
Another added: "More litter bins is what we need and maybe they could be removed when people stop dropping their litter everywhere".
One person had a practical response, suggesting: "What about if you stand adjacent to the bin, can you still see the sea? Tbh, better than trodding in dog poo on the costal path of owners who cannot be bothered to pick it up.
"If the bin is being used it was a right decision to make, just hope the council empty them when they're meant to!"
In spite of the mixed reaction to the bin, some found humour in the situation as a local commented "Perhaps we could make a new postcard entitled 'I’ve bin to Falmouth'?" and another simply said: "That's quite funny!".
