Pasty competition
On Saturday Lemon Quay hosted a special Truro Farmers’ Market, celebrating the best of Cornish produce, arts and crafts, with live music, including from Cornish singer songwriter Will Keating.
It also saw the return of the popular Pasty Making Competition, as well as a new contest for professionals - The Battle of The Bakeries.
Now the winners have been announced, with the organisers saing: "Thank you so much to all our professional bakers who entered - we loved exploring the diversity of the makers behind the pasties, and reaaaally enjoyed tasting them all too.
"It was a tough call, with so many tip top bakers in Cornwall!"
However, through a collective score of the three judges, the ‘Battle of the Bakeries Champion 2024' has been named as The Butchers Bakehouse.
Runner up in the ‘Traditional Cornish' category was Da Bara Bakery HQ.
'Best Vegan Pasty' was awarded to Berrymans Bakery Ltd, with Philp's Famous Pasties as runner up.
The winner's trophy was made by ZennorMade and will be presented in the coming days.
There were more than 50 pasties entered on the day in the public competition, but best overall winner based on crimp, pasty and filling was named as Hannah Saint, winning food and drink at Skinner's Brewery The Tapyard Riverside as her prize.
Closely following in second place was last year's winner, Linda Johns.
The 'Rest of the World' public competition winner was won by Adam Elson, who had dinner and dessert for two at The Cornish Italian lined up as his prize. In second place was Garth Thompson.
Finally the Under 18s category saw a repeat winner in Abigail Symons.
