Trevena Cross Nurseries has shared an update on when its new café will open – and there's not long to wait.
The garden centre in Breage has revealed today (Friday) that it anticipates the opening day of its new café on Saturday, March 16.
Following an extensive refurbishment, the newly named café – The Palm Tree Bistro will be offering breakfasts between 9am and 11.30am and lunch between 12pm and 3.30pm.
According to Trevena Cross, the café will offer diners a varied menu with dishes including cooked breakfasts, battered fish and chips, roasted honey and mustard ham egg and chips, burgers, and salads to name a few.
The bistro said it takes ‘pride’ in sourcing ingredients from its nursery to use in dishes. A spokesperson said: “Our strapline, celebrating quality local ingredients – some grown on-site, encapsulates our commitment to bringing you a dining experience that reflects the richness of Cornwall’s culinary treasures.
“We take pride in sourcing ingredients from our own nursery, ensuring a unique and sustainable connection to the land.”
The bistro also added that dogs can come into the café, but must be in a designated area inside, they are also welcome anywhere outside including the undercover and outside seating area.
The reopening of the newly refurbished café comes four months after Trevena announced that its previous set-up in the form of the Garden Kitchen Café, would be closing at the end of January 2024.
In November 2023 many customers were left ‘upset’ by the news the café would close, which saw an online campaign to save the establishment set up on social media.
At the time, Trevena sent an official statement to the Packet outlining the plans for the café’s future.
It said: “As we’re sure you are now aware; The Garden Kitchen Café will be closing at the end of January.
“We are now able to advise that in early March, after some extensive refurbishment, the café will be reopening with a new name, under Trevena Cross management.
“The café/restaurant will remain at the heart of the garden centre with the priority of delivering customers a dining experience that exceeds their expectations. The focus will be on serving excellent quality food, providing exceptional levels of customer service, and creating the perfect ambience to enjoy dining in.
"We appreciate that this news may come as a surprise to some, but we can assure all customers of the garden centre and the Garden Kitchen Café that it is done with the very best intentions, and to futureproof a dining experience at Trevena Cross that fits with the aspirations of the business. It is a decision that has not been taken lightly.
“We thank you for your patience and understanding during the upcoming period of transition, and hope that you will remain open-minded to the changes afoot.”
