A crowdfunder has been launched to help the owner of Coastal Rose on the Beach who has been told she has to leave her restored boathouse on Flushing Beach by Easter Sunday.
Rose, the owner of the kayak and stand up paddle board hire and tuition business on Flushing Beach, has been told she has to leave the former gig club boathouse when her lease is up on March 31.
She claims that she had negotiated an extension of the lease until October but the Trefusis Estate says this was never the case and March 31 has always been the date the lease was up.
Her friend, also called Rose, Rose Galetti, has set up a GoFundMe page to try and raise £5,000 to help her friend's business survive this setback.
Her company operates a kayak and stand up paddle board hire and tuition business from the boat shed as well as deckchair and windbreak hire. She also has her own very popular Crepe Stall on the beach.
She spent her own money restoring the shed which was in a state of disrepair after being given a lease in 2019.
In a post on Facebook and GoFundMe her friend Rose Galetti says, as an autistic person, Rose has been left “scared for her future”.
“As an autistic person Rose is really struggling to make sense of it all and to cope with all the sudden unplanned changes,” she said.
“Autistic people are known to have a very strong sense of injustice and she feels very shocked, frustrated and deeply hurt by it all. She cannot believe it. The stress for her is all consuming and alongside grieving the loss of her business and her income, she is scared for the future.”
She added: “Rose has invested so much time and money into making it a special place again.
“She has met so many lovely people along the way and has 100 per cent positive reviews.”
“Her livelihood, her career, her business, part of her identity, her income, her dream and what she thought was going to be her future,” she said.
In a statement to the Packet, the Trefusis Estate said: "Having worked with Rose on the restoration of the shed at Flushing, the lease where Coastal Rose on the Beach operates was granted on 25 October 2019 and it was always due to end automatically on 31 March 2024.
“No notice to quit was needed. We confirmed in Autumn 2022 that we did not propose to renew the lease and subsequent discussions did not lead to any new agreement. So the lease is ending as planned at the end of this month. The Estate wishes Rose all the best for the future."
