A rescue operation on a Cornish beach took a sad turn this week, despite a casualty being rescued safely.
On Wednesday crews from St Agnes Coastguards were tasked alongside crews from Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team, St Agnes RNLI Lifeboat, and the rescue helicopter 924 to a person who had been cut off from the tide whilst walking their dog along Perranporth Beach.
Crew members arrived at the scene, just as the casualty was being lifted into the search and rescue helicopter.
However, once the casualty had been lifted, crew members then worked together to try and locate the casualty’s dog.
Edge Safety Officers were put in place, to look for the dog over the cliffs and the rocks below.
After some time, the dog was spotted, but unfortunately, after every effort was made to try and bring the dog to safety, the crew members were unable to do so.
A spokesperson from St Agnes Coastguard said: “The primary duty of the St Agnes Coastguard is to save lives and conduct rescues.
“It is always challenging when our efforts do not result in the outcome we strive for.
“We are deeply saddened by the outcome of this particular mission.
"We extend our condolences to the individual who lost their beloved dog in this incident.”
