Thousands of green fingered friends defied Storm Kathleen to enjoy the Cornwall Garden Society's Spring Flower Show.

Despite the inclement weather, gardening enthusiasts from all corners flocked to the Royal Cornwall Showground near Wadebridge.

Sponsored by both the Cornish Lithium and Goonvean Group, this Cornish celebration of the coming of Spring saw horticulturists and gardeners alike immerse themselves.

It showcased the finest flora and shrubs in the country through 158 categories and offered 41 trophies.

The immersive Cornish garden at the main entrance served as a hub for interaction among attendees.

Acclaimed garden designer, Manoj Malde, from BBC TV’s Your Garden Made Perfect, kick-started the event on Saturday and shared insights about his new book, Your Outdoor Room: How to design a garden you can live in.

Tipi Talks offered fascinating discussions on subjects ranging from soil health to the history of the daffodil, while the Grow Your Own area presented unique herbs, wildflower seeds and chilli plants.

Mark Holman expressed his gratitude for everyone involved: "I would like to thank every single person who contributed to the success of this year’s Show.

"From sponsors and supporters to volunteers and visitors, and absolutely everyone else in between who played their part, the Show Committee could not have delivered this Spring Flower Show for Cornwall without you."

Charles Williams VMH, president of the Cornwall Garden Society, said: "A week ago, even a month ago, I had feared that the Cornwall Garden Society 2024 Spring Flower Show would be a disaster with no flowers to see because they had been hailed on, rained on or blown away.

"That was definitely and unexpectedly not the case".

He praised the horticulture community for its efforts, applauding everyone from the show committee to the entrants, members, traders and visitors.

Martin Petherick, chairman of the Cornwall Garden Society, concluded by sharing the upcoming dates for the next Spring Flower Show on April 5 and 6, 2025.
