Award-winning musical Kinky Boots is coming to Truro as part of a UK and Ireland tour next year.
Its highly anticipated stop at the Hall for Cornwall promises to bring the internationally celebrated show originating from the Midlands to the local stage.
This musical phenomenon is noted for its score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein.
The creation will be helmed by Curve’s artistic director Nikolai Foster and stars Johannes Radebe, an international dance sensation, as Lola, alongside rising star Dan Partridge playing Charlie Price.
The compelling narrative of Kinky Boots revolves around Charlie Price, who is navigating a failing family shoe factory and a rocky relationship.
His life takes a turn upon encountering Lola, a drag queen whose vigour and precarious heels offer a potential solution to his business woes.
The exhilarating and uplifting affair, set to tour from January 17, 2025, offers a stirring depiction of British industrial heritage, individuality, community spirit, and overcoming adversity, interspersed with fierce words by Harvey Fierstein and explosive songs by Cyndi Lauper.
Ms Lauper, reflecting on the upcoming tour, said: "Kinky Boots is one of the things I’m proudest of in my career.
"I’m so excited that audiences will get to see it again, in a new production.
"I can’t think of a better time or place to relaunch this special show in its place of origin."
Curve’s chief executive, Chris Stafford, and artistic director Nikolai Foster also shared their enthusiasm for the upcoming production: "We are beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to create a brand-new Kinky Boots at Curve, returning the story to its native Midlands and manufacturing heartland of Leicester."
The Hall for Cornwall in Truro is ready to host this joyful musical between February 25 and March 1, 2025.
