Have you ever dreamt of learning the skills of a circus performer? Well now you have a chance.
Helston is set to offer a new base for the social circus charity ‘Cirk Hes’ (Cornish for ‘Shoal Circus’) which will offer members of the public a chance to learn “high flying” and “death-defying” circus skills.
Based at Helston Business Park, Cirk Hes first started in Penzance more than 20 years ago, running community projects and regular sessions at the Acorn Theatre where regular sessions are still held.
The idea of the charity was to help bring communities together and improve their physical and mental well-being.
Since coming under new management, the charity has gone from strength to strength over the past five years, including a Glastonbury performance.
It has also built up key services to the community during times of need, with free activities for children on low incomes and focused projects working with children and adults with disabilities.
Charity manager, Naomi Lewis said: “We’re so excited to move into a new better and more central centre for community circus.
“It’s not only going to be an incredible resource for the local community, it’s going to be up there with the best training spaces in the UK. Plus, we’ll greatly support local creatives and the creative industries.”
Naomi also added: “We opened for our first public sessions for a Time2Move project in the Easter holidays.
“It was such a task getting everything set up in time we are only really starting to get the word out now. But our term time sessions are all up and running already as of this week.”
The Cirk Hes space is now open and running regular classes and clubs. It is based in Unit F8, Helston Business Park on Clodgey Lane.
