Award winning community radio station SourcefM has launched a Crowdfunder to raise money to buy state of the art equipment prior to its move to new premises in Falmouth.

After 15 years at its current site broadcasting from a hut in the grounds of Falmouth Education Centre in Tregenver Road, SourceFM, is due to move to brand purpose built premises at the rear of the Park Lodge in Kimberley Park in 2025. 

But the community radio station needs £30,000 to buy the equipment and to do this they have launched a Crowdfunder appeal.

The funding for the refurbishment of the building side of the project has been secured in partnership with Falmouth Town Council via the Shared Prosperity Fund.

The station says it now needs people’s help to raise funds to ensure that every corner of the new facility is fully equipped with state-of-the-art industry-standard equipment and software, to not only bring the radio station up to date but to future-proof it for the local community and future generations.

Launching the Crowdfunder Source FM business presenter Andy Coote said using cutting-edge new technologies and working with all ages from younger generations to those that have a lifetime of experience/ will allow us to bring fresh perspectives to the industry.

“This will enable us to support people of all ages and access needs with the training and the skills to equip them for opportunities to develop careers in radio and/or audio (podcasting, music production and similar). As well as supporting our volunteer-run radio station to continue to create, present and produce our award-winning shows,” he said.

“Your contribution will not only enable us to meet our current needs but also lay the foundation for limitless possibilities in the future.

“We want this to be a well-used community space and are already engaging with community groups to make this happen. There will be facilities to play, record and rehearse music or spoken word, to run classes - such as exercise, support groups and training courses making the ReSource media centre, truly a community hub.”

Falmouth Town Council secured £500,000 of Shared Prosperity funding to transform Kimberley Park Lodge into a vibrant community and media hub with work set to start this month.

The SPF funding, together with the £70,000 already allocated to the project by Falmouth Town Council, will allow the council to remodel the building to include three recording studios and a community café.

It is hoped the community café will become a hub for people to meet, socialise and share ideas and stories.
