A firefighter from Cornwall has adopted a dog that he found alone, waiting next to its owner who had died.
A crew from Helston Community Fire Station Cornwall were called to help police and ambulance get into a house last Thursday.
Sadly they discovered a resident who had passed away - and right next to her was a dog, waiting by his owner's side.
Joining the shout with the Helston fire crew was firefighter James Trounson, who is normally part of Mullion Community Fire Station but also responds for Helston when in the area.
He was determined not to leave the little pup on his own and took steps to look after him.
As the emergency services were unable to find any next of kin for the little terrier, Firefighter Trounson adopted Piran with permission from the police, and following checks by the RSPCA.
A spokesperson for the Helston Community Fire Service said: "Shout - 18/4/24 13:53 - Ambulance assist. On arrival, the resident was found deceased in the house, with her dog.
''With no immediate next of kin, FF James Trouson has made arrangements to adopt Piran the pup.
"FF Trouson responds mainly for Mullion Community Fire Station and responds for Helston when he’s in the area.
''Out of tragedy, sometimes there is happiness."
