Fowey guest house owners are celebrating after being recognised in a national awards scheme that champions outstanding holiday let owners.
Roger Lamb and Ian Griffiths, owners of The Coach House at Pendower House, located near Fowey, Cornwall, were named winners in Sykes Holiday Cottages’ Sykes Stars programme.
The Coach House at Pendower House was originally used to keep horses and a trap in the 1800s, with Roger’s nearby home acting as a vicarage until 1916.
In 2019, Roger converted the 19th century building into a holiday home, using his experience as an interior designer to bring it to life. Keen to preserve its original character, he added modern touches to ensure a comfortable stay for guests, including luxury furnishings and a rainfall shower.
Holidaymakers can explore the surrounding grounds and orchard, which also includes areas to dine al fresco during the warmer months.
The South West Coastal Path is accessible from the property and guests can order home cooked meals from Roger to indulge in restaurant style dining, as well as book beauty and wellness treatments with local therapists carrying these out at the property.
The Sykes Stars programme aims to recognise holiday homeowners from across the UK that have achieved perfect feedback scores from guests consistently in the last year.
The Coach House at Pendower House was among just 32 properties to be awarded a Sykes Star after going above and beyond to provide an exceptional service to their guests.
Roger said: “Taking the leap into holiday letting has been a great experience and I love to personally meet each of my guests when they arrive for their stay at The Coach House.
“There is so much to see and do in Fowey, which is the sailing centre of Cornwall, and we often have literary enthusiasts visiting as we’re just down the road from author Daphne du Maurier’s house. Guests also often cite the tranquil and unspoilt location in their feedback.
“My advice for anyone looking to become a holiday home owner would be that the more you put into it, the more you get out of it!”
