Thousands of people will descend on Helston today to celebrate its historic and much-loved annual tradition, Flora Day. 

From dance times to car parking, here’s all the essential information you need to know for Flora Day 2024.

Morning and Evening Dance (7am and 5pm)

This year, the set who will lead the Morning and Evening Dances are Tom Mitchell, Amy Williams, Andrew ‘Andy’, and Melanie ‘Mel’ Toy.

However, before the dance begins, Helston Town Band will remain stationary to remember the life of former long-serving musical director Edward Ashton who passed away in 2023.

The band last played stationary in 2022 to remember the lives of people who had died since the last time Flora Day took place in 2019, including those lost to Covid.

The dancers will return again at 5pm. 

The Hal-an-Tow (8.30am)

The ancient pageant will start at St. John’s Bridge to tell the story of the history of Helston at the following locations: The Monument, Cross Street, Wendron Street, Horse and Jockey Lane, Trengrouse Way and Meneage Street, and the Guildhall. 

The Children's Dance (9.50am)

Parc Eglos will lead the Children's Dance this year with pupils Leila, Noel, Eadie and Leo proudly at the helm. 

Dancers will proceed from Wendron Street up and down Meneage Street before turning into Church Street and Cross Street.

They will then dance around the gardens on Penhillis before progressing down Tanyard Lane to Lady Street, dancing down the pavement of Coinage Hall Street.

The dance then circles the Bowling Green before ending at the centre of Coinagehall Street.

The Midday Dance (12pm)

Tom Collins (aka 'Boomer'), Justine Dale, Lee Padgeth and Jenna Sobey (nee Firth) will lead the Midday Dance this year. 

The band will lead the dancers up Meneage Street before proceeding down Church Street, onto Cross Street before a break at Lismore.

After this, they will dance through Penhellis, the Old Vicarage Gardens, Leslie House Gardens and Lady Street.

The dance will end at the Guildhall. 

Cash withdrawal. 

Helston has a cashpoint located in JJ News on Coinagehall Street and, depending on band providers you may have the ability to withdraw cash at the Post Office. 

The banking hub has now also opened in the former Barclays building in Coinagehall Street. 

Car parks 

In addition to council car parks, temporary facilities are available at a number of locations, Tesco, Helston Rugby Club and Helston Show Field on Meneage Road.

Bus stops and temporary taxi ranks 

Temporary bus stops will be outside ATS on Clodgey Lane and the A394 at St John's. there will be taxi ranks on Trengrouse Way and the A394 at St. John's.

Medical care 

St John’s Ambulance personnel are mobile throughout the town, and ambulances are in attendance.

First Aid Points are based at Coronation Park and beside the Museum.
