Praa Sands Holiday Park is asking for pre-application advice before submitting full plans to put 15 holiday lodges and 12 glamping pods on the lower southern section of its golf course.
The proposal follows the withdrawal of a planning application in February which was for six holiday cottages adjacent to the Count House at the holiday park as it was found that survey work would have to be undertaken in relation to badger setts on the land.
With the golf course industry in decline, the owners Haulfryn Group Ltd say they are looking to diversify this part of the site as part of a "significant reinvestment programme". The lodges and pods would be situated among trees.
Existing facilities at the park include a restaurant, bar, indoor swimming pool, spa pool, steam room, gymnasium, children's outdoor play area and the nine hole golf course.
15 holiday lodges are proposed on the lower Western section of the golf course and will be located among existing mature trees. 12 glamping pods are proposed on the lower eastern section of the golf course, the Pods are also to be located around existing mature trees.
They say the further upgrading would mean three additional full-time positions and seven part-time positions which take employment at the park to 50.
The proposal says: “The proposed extension to the existing Praa Sands Holiday Park will create a high quality tourism development which widen the range and style of holiday accommodation available to visitors to Cornwall and bring further economic benefits to the local area and region.
“At the heart of the proposal is environmentally conscious business growth, and one which promotes a low carbon economy.”
It adds: “Additional landscaping will increase bio-diversity, create additional wildlife habitats and create a pleasant environment for all users.”
