Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her twenties died after falling from cliffs in Newquay.

Officers were called at around 7.30pm on Monday, May 20 following a concern for welfare for a woman in the Barrowfields area of Newquay.

Emergency services attended the scene, including HM Coastguard and the RNLI.

The woman, who was in her 20s and from the Newquay area, was pronounced deceased at the scene after falling from cliffs. Her next of kin have been informed.

The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

It is believed that the woman was in the company of a number of other individuals prior to falling from a nearby cliff.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anybody who saw the woman in the Barrowfields area that evening," said a police spokesperson.

Due to prior police contact with the woman on Saturday 18 May, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as is normal procedure in these circumstances.
