A Cornish organisation which is passionate about igniting young girls' interest in science, technology, and creative fields, have announced its first-ever festival.

Reach for the Sky, Cornwall's first-ever aviation and aerospace festival designed specifically for girls is scheduled for June 22 at RNAS Culdrose in Helston.

The festival will aim to bridge the gender gap in the aerospace industry by showcasing opportunities to encourage young girls to pursue their dreams fearlessly.

Research by Women in Aviation highlights that exposure to the aviation and aerospace industry during childhood significantly influences women's decisions to pursue careers in this sector. Statistics reveal that only six per cent of UK pilots and less than ten per cent of aviation engineers are female.

By providing this experience, reach for the Sky hopes to spark a passion for aviation and aerospace in young girls and empower them to dream big.

The festival promises a thrilling experience for attendees.

Guests will be able to get close to aircraft, including an F22 jet, and even chat with the female pilots who fly them.

However, Reach for the Sky goes beyond flying. Girls and their families can delve into the world of engineering, launch rockets, construct a space village, and have a go at virtual reality welding machines.

Live science shows and talks from female role models within the industry will also be available during the event.

“We are incredibly excited to bring this unique event to Cornwall,” said Caitlin Gould, director of TECgirls.

“Through the Reach for the Sky festival, we aim to empower young girls to explore the exciting and diverse career paths available within the aerospace industry.

"We also want to show them that they don't have to leave Cornwall to chase their dreams – there are incredible opportunities right here in our county.”

Free admission is offered to children, with lunch included. Adult tickets are priced at £10 each.
